Case Royal Caribbean: 3D Scanning

Demand:

Access the unreachable. Save hundreds of man‑hours weekly — and gain precise, reliable data.

Results:

Greater accuracy. Labour hours reduced dramatically. What was once unreachable is now accessible virtually, independently.

Testimonial:

“Thank you for your partnership and positive approach. I look forward to future projects together and appreciate the great service you’ve delivered to RCG.” - Johann Wilhelm - Lead Superintendent, Technical & Arch. Outfitting

Insight & Execution:

RCCL required complete documentation of their newest passenger ship. Sixty thousand square meters scanned — likely the largest scan ever made.

A complete turnkey solution — a ready‑to‑use portal for diving directly into the virtual world.

3D scanning gives engineers virtual access to the entire ship, providing precise data from every part of it. The potential uses for this material and data are virtually limitless — which is exactly why the scan was essential. The scans are accessed roughly 100 times a day by engineers at RCCL’s offices around the globe.

Star of the Seas stands as the largest passenger cruise ship ever built, cruising the Caribbean. I spent four weeks aboard this giant, capturing it in its entirety. This project was initiated by Merima, who commissioned their own share of scanned areas.
